Prof. Choong-Ki Chung is a distinguished academic in the field of Geotechnical Engineering and currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Seoul National University. He earned his Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from Northwestern University in 1991, following an M.S. and B.S. in Civil Engineering from Seoul National University. His research focuses on site investigation, geo-information systems, geo-hazards, and soil deformation. With an academic career spanning over three decades, Professor Chung has held various key positions including Head of Department, Director of the Engineering Research Institute, and Associate Dean for Research Affairs at Seoul National University. He has also played leading roles in professional societies, serving as Vice President (2012–2016) and President (2019–2021, 2024) of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers, and Vice President of the Korean Geotechnical Society. His international experience includes postdoctoral and visiting professorships at Northwestern University. A prolific researcher, Professor Chung has authored 72 international journal papers, 105 domestic journal papers, and 100 international conference papers.
